The ethnic people of Manipur is being marginalized. The two thousand years' golden history of the land has been reduced to nothingness.The voice of the people demanding ratification or proof to the merger of the land with India remains gagged. Referendum is being demanded. The merger is being questioned by massive movements. In short, the right to political self-determination of the people of Manipur has been made by the rule of India itself over the land. It is being bargained. The people is sick with more than six decades' capitalization and colonization. Militarization has been resorted to by the Government as to serve the democratic wishes of the people- the rule by the masses but not by guns of any other entity.
The Manipuris are one colonised people, one ill-treated people by the largest democracy in the world-the Union of India. They need your intervention, help and co-operation.
The Manipuris are one nation now being terrorized by the Government of India and its peaceful existence is always being threatened causing a massive mass upheaval on 18 June 2001 and deliberate agitations against socio-economic strangulation.
They need to transform their Government to the genuine Socialist Democracy in the hands of the ordinary masses. They need to restore the right to self-determination politically. India is to be convinced to return this right to the people of Manipur- the lost Nationality. Manipur was never merged into India giving every right to India to break it into pieces and to reduce its Nationality to Marginality.India is to be informed to prove its stand otherwise.
The only road to peace in Manipur is to hold plebiscite over the controversial merger at the moment. India,being the largest democracy,is to believe in that will and principle instead of holding the land with its strong and enormous military strength and the economic invasion by its mainlanders.
The term such as Counter Insurgency Operation (CI operation) made and pronounced by the Government tell clearly that the militia in the state are insurgents but not the terrorists. Then, why should the Government need to solve the issue with militarization , not by dialogue? Why does democratic India not believe in the principle of political or democratic negotiation or dialogue? Why doesn't India stop abusing the people and the land appeasing some other regional ethnos who had nothing and who are nothing? Why this ill-treatment? That will only cause eternal-fratricidal-messes and destabilization of the region and it will cost India too.
That policy is not the required and the wise one for bringing about peace in the region. The Indian leaders, intelligentsia and media are to be made academically aware of the region. Two, they should change their perception and thought.They should know Manipur was even older than that Indian union or dominion.
The GUNS OFF MANIPUR is an International Campaign in and for Solidarity with Manipur and its issues. It is an activity initiative of the Manipur Action Group/Global Action on Manipur. It is a permanent campaign which aims at helping to bring about the Permanent Resolutions in Manipur. It is established to internationally provide Awareness about Manipur and its immediate needs within the labour and trade union movements, the proletariat es or the world revolutionary movements and the inquisitive, interested and energetic people of the world.
The main task and activity of the GUNS OFF MANIPUR is to promote, influence and spread beyond the social aims of the Manipuri revolution- the demerits,problems and prospects in the movement and strive to mobilize against any aggression towards this genuine and noble cause of the Manipuris. It is to mobilize and promote solidarity and alliance or connection between Manipur and the movements of other countries, interested individuals and organizations.
